BMW Unified Passenger Audio
As the Audio Concept Lead, I was responsible for streamlining the audio interaction model across the BMW Passenger Entertainment ecosystem. My goal was to create a seamless, high-end experience for both front and rear passengers while managing the technical complexity of a multi-display and multi-user environment.

My job
I orchestrated the integration of audio and media controls across the Front Passenger Display, Rear Theatre Screen, and door control modules. By establishing a unified volume framework and sophisticated playback awareness logic, I ensured that the system intelligently routes audio between three independent headphone zones and the main cabin. My focus was on transforming complex technical requirements into a premium interaction model that prioritizes zonal independence and user safety.
Key
Contributions
Unified Volume Control Framework
I designed a consistent control logic for volume management that functions across all touchpoints. By unifying these interfaces, I ensured that passengers can intuitively manage their personal audio zones without friction, regardless of their seating position.
Cross-Display Playback Awareness
I developed the logic for "Playback Awareness" to synchronize the audio state across the cabin. This included managing the handshake between three independent headphone zones, ensuring the system always knows which source is active and where the audio should be routed.
Integrated Headphone Management
I created a comprehensive concept for headphone settings within the system’s deep-link architecture. This allows users to manage pairing, sound profiles, and device assignment through a centralized, accessible menu, significantly reducing cognitive load.
Compliance & Jump Scare Prevention
I ensured the system met all global regulatory requirements by implementing "Jump Scare Prevention." This logic-based safeguard prevents sudden, harmful volume spikes during source switches or device connections, protecting passenger comfort and hearing.
Strategic Impact
By shifting from isolated display silos to a unified "Audio Ecosystem," we significantly enhanced the premium feel of the in-car experience. This framework provides a scalable foundation for future BMW models, balancing high-tech functionality with uncompromising safety standards.
